Below are brief descriptions of the studies that are performed by Sound Diagnostics of Northwest Florida.

Ultrasounds

Ultrasounds are medical imaging techniques using sound waves to create images of a person's internal organs, tissues, and vessels. Advantages include providing images in real time, lower cost, and does not use harmful ionizing radiation. Abdominal Ultrasound is primarily used to assess the organs and structures within the abdomen. This typically includes the Liver, Gallbladder, Pancreas, Bile Ducts, Spleen, Abdominal Aorta and Kidneys. In addition to evaluating the organs for size and pathology, and Abdominal Ultrasound can also be used to show the speed and direction of blood flow within the abdomen.

OB Ultrasounds

OB Ultrasounds are an invaluable tool for medical professionals to monitor a baby's development in the womb. High-frequency sound waves create images of the fetus, placenta, and amniotic sac. These images provide crucial insight into the health and well-being of mother and child throughout pregnancy.

Echocardiograms

Echocardiograms are a type of medical imaging test that use sound waves to help visualize the structure and function of the heart. It is commonly used to detect abnormalities in the structure and motion of the walls of the heart, as well as the valves of the heart.

X-Rays

X-rays are an important part of medical imaging which is used to diagnose a variety of conditions. X-rays utilize electromagnetic radiation to create images of the inside of the body, revealing details such as bones, organs, and soft tissue. X-rays can be used in many ways, such as uncovering broken or fractured bones, diagnosing cancerous tumors, and assessing abnormalities .

Mammograms

Mamograms are imaging tests used to detect changes in breast tissue. During the procedure, a low-dose X-ray is taken of each breast, which can be examined for any abnormalities.

Abdominal Ultrasound

Abdominal Ultrasound is primarily used to assess the organs and structures within the abdomen. This typically includes the Liver, Gallbladder, Pancreas, Bile Ducts, Spleen, Abdominal Aorta and Kidneys. In addition to evaluating the organs for size and pathology, and Abdominal Ultrasound can also be used to show the speed and direction of blood flow within the abdomen.

Arterial Doppler

Arterial Doppler is a test that shows the direction and speed of blood moving throughout the arteries in the arms or legs. This exam is typically used to diagnose: narrowing of the artery, plaque buildup, atherosclerosis, arterial occlusions and bulging of the arteries (aneurysms).

Breast Ultrasound

Breast Ultrasound is used to follow up on suspicious areas seen on a mammogram. Typically, these ultrasounds are used to see if a lump is a solid or cystic mass. Mammography is still the best tool for evaluating the entire breast, even in patients with dense breast tissue.

Carotid Ultrasound

Carotid Ultrasound is ordered to evaluate the arteries that supply your brain with blood. Generally, this exam is used to check for narrowing or blocked arteries that can lead to a stroke

Pelvic Ultrasound

Pelvic Ultrasound is commonly ordered to diagnose and assist in the evaluation and treatment of abnormalities within the uterus, endometrium, cervix and ovaries.

Testicular Ultrasound

Testicular Ultrasound is used to determine the cause of testicular pain or enlargement, as well as, the epididymis. This procedure is used to evaluate for cystic and solid masses, hydroceles, varicoceles and spermatoceles. Additionally, this test is used to evaluate for adequate blood flow and determine the location of undescended testes.

Thyroid Ultrasound

Thyroid Ultrasound is ordered to evaluate the size and echogenicity of your thyroid gland, identify cysts, goiters, tumors and ensure adequate blood flow.

Venous Doppler

Venous Doppler is a test that is used to check the circulation in the large veins in the legs or arms. Typically, this exam is used to evaluate for blood clots or poorly functioning valves that can lead to blood or other fluids to pool in your legs.

Holter Monitor

A Holter Monitor is a type of portable electrocardiogram(ECG) that records the electrical activity of your heart for a specified amount of time. This is one of the most simple and easiest way to evaluate the heart. Electrodes (small, plastic patches that stick to the skin) are placed at certain points on the chest and abdomen. The electrodes are connected to an ECG machine by wires. Then, the electrical activity of the heart can be measured, recorded, and printed. No electricity is sent into the body. Natural electrical impulses coordinate contractions of the different parts of the heart. This keeps blood flowing the way it should. An ECG records these impulses to show how fast the heart is beating, the rhythm of the heart beats (steady or irregular), and the strength and timing of the electrical impulses. Changes in an ECG can be a sign of many heart-related conditions.
